FRAGRANCE DESIGNER. THE PROFESSION THAT WAS LACKING.
CLAUDIA SCATTOLINI – HOW TO BECOME A FRAGRANCE DESIGNER.
HOW THE PROFESSION OF FRAGRANCE DESIGNER WAS BORN.
CLAUDIA SCATTOLINI AND THE BEGINNING OF A fragrant journey
How do you become a Fragrance Designer? It is a job that has evolved and developed only in recent years. In 2007 when I registered my Fragrance Designer brand, it was still unheard of; as a matter of fact it was mentioned by the great designer Giugiaro in 2010 in his Annual as a new and important figure for the world of architecture. I’m proud to say that I contributed to the birth of this new profession.
The Fragrance Designer is the interpreter of emotions that has the ability to transform and translate. It takes commitment, study and research. Improvisation and passion and love for perfumes are not enough.
Sacrifice, dedication and a lot of willpower undoubtedly combined with an innate gift that must be cultivated, developed and strengthened with training and study.
Here you will find some case histories and in-depth details on projects I have carried out over the years.
CREATING PERFUMES. ATTITUDE AND COMMITMENT.
At first glance, you could think that to create a perfume it is enough to have an artistic skill and a good sense of smell: in reality, a perfume is much more. The creation demands that the designer also has an excellent technical foundation of chemistry and legislation, that they are able to create the right blend of raw materials that meets the customer’s requests and that falls within the requested target price. Delivering a finished product also means the study of the packaging and all that follows.
FRAGRANCE DESIGNER. CURRICULUM.
I’m always asked which courses and schools to attend to become a perfumer. I was the first Italian to attend the postgraduate course of ISIPCA (Institut supérieur international du parfum, de la cosmétique et de aromatica alimentaire) in Paris, a world renound school in this sector, founded by Jean Jacques Guerlain where I studied with famous noses like Jean Claude Ellena. In Italy, on the other hand, I obtained a master degree in Business Management from the University of Padua. From here my profession took off.
FRAGRANCE DESIGNER. BEYOND THE PERFUME.
The vocation is in my DNA, it guides me and its attraction is unstoppable. A fragrance has a thousand faces and personalities and can represent everything. This is why I have also specialized in the creation and production of bespoke perfumes, private labels and olfactory surroundings.
I have always been fascinated by everything related to the world of fragrances. But attraction and attitude are not enough. I teach and learn. Constantly. I deepen my understanding and think to the future . And I always think about what experiences I can give with a perfume.
My greatest desire is to spread knowledge of the art of perfumery.
FRAGRANCE DESIGNER. CASE HISTORY.
The perfume emphasizes personality and creates atmosphere, but you might be amazed to know the use I made of it for a very special event.
A well-known fashion house created a very unique setting for one of its fashion shows: the catwalk was designed as an aircraft runway, with low lights, engine noise, an air marshall signalling on the landing strip, projected video of a plane that was landing. And upon landing, the loud noise of the engine, the tires screeching and smoking – and in the air the scent of rubber burnt on the asphalt, the result of my magic potion. And ho! High volume music starts and the models come out, parading among the clouds of black smoke. If you want to browse, here you will find all the details of the event.
An exciting moment also enriched by this so realistic scented background.
These requests also occur, but a fragrance designer is ready for anything !!
